Empowering Communities at Rajanganaya Yaya Harischandra School
On 11th July, the RCCN partnered with Zonta Club II of Colombo and FEMS, at the handing over of the installed Reverse Osmosis unit at Rajanganaya Yaya Harischandra School. This initiative, in line with Rotary International’s focus on Maternal and Child Health, marked a powerful start to our Rotary year. We provided flavored milk packets and biscuits to 600 students, ensuring their nutritional needs were met. FEMS also led a crucial session on period poverty, educating young girls on menstrual health and providing essential support.
Indian 2 Movie Screening In Support of Rotary for Little Hearts Initiative

The Rotary Club(s) of Colombo Centennial, Colombo South, Pan Colombo, Colombo Central, Batticaloa Heritage and Colombo North, jointly
organized the special screening of Kamal Hassan’s “Indian 2”, which was held on the 17th July, from 7.00 pm onwards at PVR Cinema, One Galle Face
Mall, Colombo. A contribution of Rs.500, 000 was handed over to District Governor Sushena Ranatunga in support of Rotary for Little Hearts Project. This event brought together a diverse audience around 114 participants, including 3 Past District Governors, District Governor Sushena Ranatunga and First Lady Roshini, as well as District Governor Elect and District Governor Nominees along with their spouses.
Our mission was to leverage the power of entertainment to bring people together, foster happiness, and support charitable endeavors.
Story of Little Hearts – A PR Initiative of Rotary Club of Colombo North
On July 25th, 2024, District Governor Sushena Ranatunga and Pediatric Cardiologist Dr. Duminda Samarasinghe appeared live on Swarnawahini’s “Ayobowan Sri Lanka” to discuss the impactful Little Hearts initiative. The full episode is available on the Rotary Club of Colombo North’s YouTube channel. On the same day, they went live on Sitha FM and Red FM. This PR initiative by the Rotary Club of Colombo North aims to ensure this significant message reaches the entire island nation, advocating for better pediatric cardiac care across Sri Lanka and Rotary’s involvement in it.
Rotary Club of Colombo North Family Futsal Tournament
On July 28th, from 2:30 pm onwards, the Rotary Club of Colombo North organized an exciting futsal tournament at Uni Sports, Futsal Court,
Kirulapone. The event brought together members from the club along with their sponsoring Rotaract and Interact Clubs. The lively competition aimed to
strengthen the bonds within the Rotary Colombo North family and foster deeper connections between the youth and the Rotary Club. Winners of the tournament were recognized with special gifts and certificates, handed over by President Haneekah Rahil, Assistant District Governor Rakitha Jayatunga, Past President Sriyantha Senaratne, Rtn Anthea Senaratne, and Youth Service Chair Marshard Barry. Over 80 members joined this Rotary family event, with RC Colombo North fielding its own team. This initiative highlighted the importance of camaraderie and collaboration, reinforcing the club’s commitment to engaging the next generation of leaders.
